Ampelographers believe that the vine has a very long winemaking history but it is rarely seen today.\u00a0It is believed to have been descendent from the Chianti wine grape Mammolo and the Corsican\u00a0grape Sciacarello\u00a0which would make it a half-sibling of Colombana nera.<\/p>\n<p>Pollera nera is a permitted variety in <a title=\"Colli di Luni\" href=\"https:\/\/liguriawine.com\/wines-of-liguria\/eastern-liguria\/lunigiana\/colli-di-luni\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colli di Luni\u00a0DOC <\/a>that spans across the border between Liguria and Tuscany. Here the red wines are primarily Sangiovese\u00a0(60-70%) with Pollera nera, <a title=\"Canaiolo Nero\" href=\"https:\/\/liguriawine.com\/wines-of-liguria\/ligurian-grapes\/canaiolo-nero\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canaiolo<\/a> and Ciliegiolo collectively making up 15-40% of the blend and other local red varieties permitted up to a maximum of 25%. Grapes destined for the DOC wine must harvested\u00a0to a yield no greater than 12 tonnes\/hectare with the finished wine needing to attain a minimum alcohol level of at least 11.5%.
