Vines for classico are youngish, around 20 years old, which makes the wines fresher. Young vines so trained in a different way – higher up. Grapes grown in three different terroirs and allowed to irrigate.

23rd June 2012 Dolceacqua
Classico 2011 Black jam raspberry. Good ripeness of fruit with wild berry and bramble tannins and acidity. Some alcohol on length. Similar to Riviera dei Fiori classic. Freshness of red fruit and acidity – alcohol is the slightly different angle – gives weight and lift – but only 12.7% (label 12.5%) – so the richness of fruit … lots of ripe fruit but wild brambles, sour cherry, red currant, slightly almondy. 15/20
22nd May 2011 Blind Tasting Bordighera
2010 Moderate depth. Savoury on the nose, slightly meaty and spicy. Big ripe juicy fruit. Wild berries. Chunky tannins. Raspberries, fresh acidity and good weight. 12.5%, 16.5/20
7th May 2011 History and Wine in the Alpes Maritime, Taggia
2010 Moderate depth. Cherries, slightly almondy. Fresh red berry fruit. Fresh acidity. Slightly jammy sweetness. Long acidity and freshness. Spice developing with maybe a lightly bitter finish which lowered the score. Very like a Valpolicella. 12.5% 14/20
29th May 2010 Blind Tasting Dolceacqua
