‘L’Antico’ 2012 DOC Portofino. 100% Çimixa. An old variety recently rediscovered and revived. Wax, beeswax, round, fat weight, goodish acidity. Unusual, maybe a bit like Semillon – but really quite distinctive, and a variety which may show different character with other producers.

(Imported by Rosenthal to US – nose moderately intense with lovely, delicate aromas of peach, pear, lime, white flowers and chalk.  On the palate the wine was on the lighter side of medium with medium acidity.  There were flavors of apricot, lime peel, ripe pear, and golden apple with some chalky minerality on the finish.  The wine was subtle, delicate and elegant and was really just lovely to drink.)

Abissi 2011 sparkling wine Aged deep in the sea with bottles packed in a palete for 13 months. Only 700 bottles on an experimental basis. Made with Grenache and Ciciéfiolo. Extra brut, no dosage. On the nose strongly mineral and red fruit. Am I imagining this – the wine has a salty minerality? But lacks fruit(piccolo fruiti rosso)  and varietal character. Very neutral and very dry with high malic acidity. Possibly good if served very cold. Bottle packaging very good – imitating wet from the sea.

Rosato 2014 100% Ciliegiolo Dry cherry fruit, lovely fresh strawberry and cherry fruit, good acidity with dry (tannic) finish.

L’Antico 2014 Çimixa. Very floral, still very mineral and austere and lean, with floral overtones. Moderate acidity.
