Vineyards overlooking the Golfo del Tigullio, under the hill. They had wanted to have the DOC Liguria Riviera Levante but it was felt to be too similar to other names so they were given Golfo del Tigullio which no-one had heard of. Now Portofino has been added to the name and their DOC is better known than the others and the new IGP is Liguria Levante – so probably alot of consumer confusion.

Vermentino vineyard covers 8000m2 producing 4000 bottles. Rows of vines closer than Daniele Palma, believes the high density produces better wine. Happy not to export and to just have his wine in the best local restaurants – the taste of the country in the wine – the taste of the local fennel and oregano.

Vermentino made in stainless tanks, whole bunch on skin for a day, cool temperature fermentation. Vermentino is thick skinned. Cryo-maceration to give volume, structure and body. He feels the wine will age well for the next 2 years beore evolving more mature fruit and a more golden yellow Bottled in April.

Vermentino 2013: Nose very ripe almost bruised apples with mineral notes – can you taste the sea? Cranerry acidity. Impression of being sweeter and riper than Daniele Parma’s Vermentino. Vineyard 12 years old, less slate, north facing, protected from winds, on steep hill with lots of sun esposure.
