Daniele has been making wine for 27 years, but the first 17 years were with his brother – fratelli Parma – where they bought in grapes and made generic wine, distilled grapa etc. 10 years ago he decided to go on his won. He makes 3 wines from three different vineyards.

  1. Red: Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo
  2. Bianche Genovese
  3. Vermentino

The Vermentino comes from a small vineyard of 1.7ha (2,500 bottles) on the valley floor where the soil is slate and clay. Uses natural yeast and this year for the first time carried out four days of maceration on the skins. As yet does not know if this style will improve with age.

Vinidimare May 2014

Vermentino 2013:  Ripe, rich fruit of peaches, pears and even a touch of raspberries with smooth, creamy structure, at the same time quite an austere, stoney dryiness, followed by long clean, mineral acidity finishing with a spicy, salty, lively finish. (local RRP 9-10 euros)

From 2008-2011 Daniele prepared the neighbouring section of vineyard for planting, digging down four metres and filling in the soil with the slate and clay from higher up the hill. In 2013 he planted more Vermentin using two different clones from Sardinia – chosen because they are used to drought and have fewer, smaller berries and more concentrated fruit.

Did try the other white at tasting by the sea – nice, pleasant fresh. Red was dry and tannic.

Mare & Mosto 17th May 2015

Vermentino 2014 Floral aromas, none of the dried fruit of so many. Rich, creamy, good acidity, good weight with hints of minerality and dried fruit on the finish, good long acidity.

Berette 2013 (Berette in Genovese means grape skin) Matured for 6 days on the skin. Very peppery, dried apricots. Fermented in inox. Very rich, good acidity, dry on the finihs with a hint of tannin.

Biachetta Genovese 2014 Very dry and mineral, quite delicate, long, lean, tony, salty. Blend of two vineyards, one by the sea. Needs age.
