From the Latin Insula Bona – because on a semi-island at the confluence of two rivers. Part of the County of Nice, it was owned by the Doria family from 1287, who built the castle in a hexagonal form with a four sided tower. Near the ‘bunda’, the main street, there is an octagonal fountain dating from the 15th century, and the baroque church Ste Mary Magdalene, dates from 1641.
