Dolceacqua

Origin of the name is unsure – either from Dussagna – Celtic ‘ibylle des enchantements’ or Dulcius – a local Roman landowner. From 1270 property of the Doria family, and the main family seat from 1652. Its humpback bridge (le pont a dos d’ane) was made famous by a painting by Monet.

Local products as Rossese di Dolceacqua and Taggiasca olive oil. Local dishes: Michetta (brioche) and taqunàà and tart made with fruit, jam or chocolate.
